Home Access
Overview
Home Access is a software based control system for an electronic door strike on the front door of my home. The door strike will be controlled by an RFID tag reader mounted outside my house, in combination with PAM Authentication for RFID Tags, the system will selectively allow keyless entry to my home.
Features
- Keyless door access
- Retains original door lock, incase of power or software failure, or leaving the house w/o your RFID tags.
- Customizable notifications of entry
- Great for when friends are watching your pets... receive e-mail alerts of when they arrive!
This project will be built over the next several months. Details will be posted as it is developed.
Hardware
Tentatively, this project will be built using a mini ITX form factor PC, wall mounted inside my front door. The PC will be connected to a USB desktop reader installed in a weather proof project box just outside my front door. On successful authentication using an RFID tag, my front door's Electronic Strike will be released, allowing access to the home.
Considering purchasing a E*Pro Solid State system utilizing a fanless Via C7 processor and compact flash storage. The system would run a light weight Linux distribution, combined with the PAM_AuthRFID authentication module.
Since my implants are Hitag S - I would like to stick with the USB Evo desktop reader.
- Reader will likely be encased in a custom lexan case on the outside of my home (since it has a lit LED border already, why hide the fancy looks?)
Software
The software is being developed by me. The source will be released under the Common Public License 1.0 when available.
